American Legion Post 16

American Legion Convention 2014

The Robert H. Burns American Legion Post 16 attended the American Legion State Convention at the Airport Hilton in Kenner, LA on June 5 to June 8.  Attending parts of the Convention were Commander James Lacassagne, Commander-elect H. T. “Terry” Sharp, Executive Committee member Stacy Miller, Finance Officer Mike Peats, and 2nd Vice Commander Ray Hartley.

Robert H. Burns American Legion Post 16 did very well with awards this year.  Among the awards received were Post Commander of the Year, James Lacassagne; Stiffel Award (Americanism), Hamily Barrios (Children and Youth), and the Veterans Services award.  We also won membership awards, the Publication award and placed 2nd with our Newsletter.  All in all, Robert H. Burns American Legion Post 16 really did excellent!  We kicked the other Post’s butts.

This is all due to the hard work of many of our members who contribute to help with all our programs, support and activities.  Thanks everyone out there who helped make this the best Post in the state of Louisiana.

The new State Commander, Billy Ray Foley, has taken over and has asked some of us to run important commissions.  H. T. Terry Sharp will continue with the Oratorical, and Agriculture, and Mike Peats will chair the Americanism Commission to name just a few.  We are well represented at Department.

There was a very small turn out at Installation again for such a great Post.  We had an excellent meal catered by Picadilly’s and desserts were provided by our Auxiliary unit.  All three installations went very efficiently and former State Commander Herbie Petit did an excellent job.
