Robert H. Burns American Legion Family sent off the 2014 Girls and Boys State candidates early Sunday June 22nd about 6:00 AM.  Commander H. T. Terry Sharp checked in the Boys and Marie Duracher checked in the Girls.  Also assisting this effort were Mike Peats, 6th District procurement Chairman, Richard Mecom and Perry O’tillio from Post 415, Richard Sands – Post 374, Rick Perry – Post 185, and John Fornea Post 24.  This year Marie Duracher made sure the Girls State bus left ahead of the Boys by clearing out a path (See Picture).  The Boys State bus was right behind them.

This year Robert H. Burns American Legion Post 16 sent 14 Boys Candidates to Boys State.  Overall the 6th District sent up 97 Boys candidates.  This is the largest group in some time from the 6th District.  Two buses were required, one leaving from Covington Post 16 and the other from Baton Rouge.

The Boys and Girls citizens will return on Saturday June 28th around 4 PM.  A program will be held at American Legion Post 16 where all the Boys and Girls citizens give feedback on what they learned and their experiences.  Every member of the American Legion Post 16 Family is welcome to attend this program and see what this great program is about.
