These are some pictures from our December Luncheon followed by our regular meeting at the
Highland Center. The Ladies Auxiliary presented gifts to the Volunteers of America servers and cooks.
This past weekend the Volunteers of American in conjunction with
the Overton Brooks VA Medical Center had a dedication and ribbon cutting to open The Veterans Transitional Living Program
for the Homeless veterans in our area. Louisiana has the second-highest rate of homeless veterans
in the nation at 3.28 percent, the VOA says."In Northwest Louisiana a 2009 point- in- time
survey counted 173 homeless veterans, more than half of whom had been homeless for longer than
three months, many of them struggle with substance abuse, or other mental illnesses. The facility
will house up to 56 people seeking transition.
