The
Robert H. Burns, American Legion Family Post 16 took time to pay tribute to those lives lost on 9-11-2001, and those
that have suffered in the aftermath. On the steps of the St Tammany Parish Justice
Center on 9-11-2011 at 6:00 pm,
approximately 200 people joined together for the “A Day of Remembrance” ceremony.
Post
16’s Judge Advocate Julian Rodrigue, Sr. served as Master of Ceremony. The
Call to Order was performed by Post 16 Commander Stacy Miller. Sons of the American
Legion Squadron Chaplain Tasso Taylor gave invocation, Advancement of the Colors was performed by Covington
High School’s Navy Junior ROTC, St. Tammany Parish Deputy Michael Oates led
the audience in singing the National Anthem followed by the Pledge of Allegiance.

16’s Commander Miller offered a Welcome and Introduction of Guests, followed by a poem reading by Auxiliary Unit 16
member Gwen Miller. Covington Elementary
School’s 3rd Grade Choir, directed by teacher Peggy Crain, performed a musical tribute. Guest speakers were City of Covington Mayor Mike Cooper,
St. Tammany Parish Sheriff Office Chief Deputy Tim Lentz and St. Tammany Fire District 12 Chief Kevin Adams. The “Ringing of 4 Fives” was performed by Covington Fire Department. Wreaths were placed by First Responders. Post 16’s honor
guard member Elizabeth Rice performed taps and Squadron16’s Chaplain Tasso Taylor gave the benediction.
